Description
I started painting this piece in Tamworth, North West NSW after a long period of consistantly hot weather.
Our backyard had a picturesque view of Flagstaff Mountain, this view changed as summer rolled on, hot day after hot day. The vegetation on the mountain thinned out or died off from heat stress & dehydration, exposing rock faces & large boulders. On the clear days it felt like you could feel the heat radiating of the exposed mountain. Teamed with the other mountain ranges that surround Tamworth, it felt like you were surrounded by a ring of radiators.
The atmosphere was oppressive & the surrounding countryside was showing signs of heat pressure…..dry crops, dry mountains, dry earth cracking open.
The threat of bushfires was ever present & the land looked like in could combust at anytime.
Night bought small relief, small temperature swings weren’t enough to cool the place.
Warm nights, hot days, warm nights, hot days, warm nights, hot days, the cycle went on & on.
