About

Change is the only constant

Tony embraces and harnesses the power of change to challenge himself creatively and to push for better artistic outcomes. Outcomes which challenge him as the creator and challenges the audience as viewers.

Tony has challenged himself  by moving from the coast to the country. No more cool water views all the way to the horizon, replaced by rings of mountains holding the suns warmth close and pushing temperatures high. The next challenge arrived when Tony moved from New South Wales to The Northern Territory. Four seasons giving way to two seasons, lush greenery giving way to red dirt.

Experiencing the ever changing visual feed from the Australian landscape has bled into Tonys art practice.

Born in Mulubinba (Newcastle) NSW in 1973 & now residing on Larrakia country (Darwin)

Tonys creative interest was sparked whilst studying art at High School, excellent teachers inspired and lit a fire.

Beyond school art class Tony continued as a self taught creative utilising illustration, painting & mixed media to create an evolving body of work. His artistic growth and expansion of technique continues non stop.
Tonys formal qualifications include a Diploma in Graphic Design & Certificate in Life Drawing. Whilst studying Tony, won The NSW TAFE Art Prize for the best 2D graphic design and this work “Park Road” was included in a statewide art exhibition.

Tony creates art to relax, it’s a meditation, it’s a compulsion.

Tony works on paper, canvas and digital platforms but his preferred canvas is recycled materials such as plywood, masonite and old doors, enjoying the tactile nature of the materials which can be cut, drilled, painted, sprayed, sanded, layered and beaten up.

Using unconventional materials as canvas to remove the mystique of art and make it more approachable for everyone.

Tonys practice is driven by the process, get some paint down, make some marks and follow their lead. He has multiple works running so he can jump from one to another as the next creative move presents itself. Building flow as he moves, repeating a mantra to himself “don’t over think it, just create”

That’s his driver, he loves to create something new, something that didn’t exist previously, something he didn’t have a full vision of, something that comes about by doing. By making marks. By starting the creative process. By following instinct.

Art Action!

Pair this “Art Action” with wider influences coming from music and song lyrics, road trips, tattoos, street art, found objects/recycled materials, faces and portraiture and you have an expansive, plethora of ideas which feed into Tonys creative process.

Tony strives to create organic, balanced art that bring the artist and viewer together based on a feel for the work, but leaves room for the viewers personal interpretation, creating a positive experience that builds their passion for his work and art in general.

Artists which influence Tonys work include Brett Whitely, John Olsen, Charles Blackman, Sidney Nolan, Albert Tucker, Wendy Sharpe, Rosalie Gascoigne, Adam Cullen and Ben Quilty.

Tonys art work is influenced but staunchly individual.

Tony has exhibited extensively in successful solo & group shows.
Tony has enjoyed excellent sale results at all exhibitions.
