About

What do you do for inspiration?

Tony packs up house and moves 400km inland from the familiarity of the coast and settles into country life.

No blue ocean hues to the horizon but a ring of mountains that embrace and ground you in the rural landscape. Change is a major source of inspiration for Tony. Caught in the rip of change and transported back to the coast giving him a renewed appreciation for our land and landscapes we travel through.

Pair these moves with an overdue decision to make his passion his full time “job” and the fires of creativity were relit… burn baby burn!

Born in Newcastle NSW in 1973,

Tonys creative interest was sparked whilst studying art at High School, excellent teachers inspired and lit a fire.

Beyond school art class Tony continued as a self taught creative utilising illustration, painting & mixed media to create an evolving body of work. His artistic growth and expansion of technique continues non stop.
Tonys formal qualifications include a Diploma in Graphic Design & Certificate in Life Drawing. Whilst studying Tony won The NSW TAFE Art Prize for the best 2D graphic design and this work “Park Road” was included in a state wide art exhibition.

Tony creates art to relax, it’s a meditation, it’s a compulsion.

Tony works on paper, canvas and digital platforms but his preferred canvas is recycled materials such as plywood, masonite and old doors, enjoying the tactile nature of the materials which can be cut, drilled, sanded, layered and beat up.

Using unconventional materials as canvas to remove the mystique of art and make it more approachable for everyone.
Curved lines are a repeated theme in Tonys work. Influenced by lines, shapes and colour repeated in nature surrounding us, whether that be country or coast.

The outline of a mountain range against a crisp blue sky, veins in a leaf, the unique colours of native flowers, curves of the coastline, the never ending depths of blue hues of the ocean, the contrast of Australian seasons, grass burnt yellow by the summer sun, brushfires, regeneration, river routes cut through the land, our environment is a never ending source of inspiration.

Pair these influences with wider influences coming from music and song lyrics, road trips, coffee, tattoos, street art, found objects/recycled materials, faces and portraiture and you have an expansive, plethora of ideas which feed into Tonys creative process.

Tony strives to create organic, balanced art that bring the artist and viewer together based on a feel for the work, but leaves room for the viewers personal interpretation, creating a positive experience that builds their passion for his work and art in general.

Artists which influence Tonys work include Brett Whitely, John Olsen, Charles Blackman, Sidney Nolan, Albert Tucker, Wendy Sharpe, Rosalie Gascoigne, Adam Cullen, Ben Quilty, Anthony Lister, and Scottie Marsh. Tonys art work is influenced but staunchly individual.

Tony has exhibited extensively in successful solo & group shows.
Tony has enjoyed excellent sale results at all exhibitions.
